Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Fountain Pen & Ink Identifier (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the App.
At a glance: pen and ink analysis is not purely on-device. When you request an analysis, your selected image may be uploaded to our cloud infrastructure, processed on the server, and the result may be saved to your history.
Quick Summary
- The App uses anonymous Firebase Authentication to create an app account identifier.
- When you analyse a fountain pen or ink, the selected image may be uploaded to Firebase Storage.
- A Cloud Function retrieves the request and uses OpenRouter-based AI services to generate identification text and reference value guidance.
- Analysis results and collection history may be stored in Firestore so you can revisit prior scans.
- Subscription status is handled through Apple In-App Purchase and RevenueCat.
- If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever message content you send.
- We do not sell personal data or share it with advertisers.
Information We Collect
Anonymous account identifiers
To provide core features, the App may create an anonymous Firebase Authentication user. This lets us associate saved analyses, collection data, and purchase state with your device-level app account.
Images and analysis requests
When you select a photo from the camera or photo library and request an analysis, the image may be uploaded to Firebase Storage. Our backend then retrieves the image and sends relevant content to OpenRouter and its underlying model providers to generate structured results.
The uploaded image and generated result may also be used to populate your saved analysis history and collection features inside the App.
Saved collection data
If you use collection features, we may store analysis metadata in Firestore, such as timestamps, generated identification details, value estimates, notes, and references needed to display your saved history.
Purchase and subscription data
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to validate and synchronize entitlement status. We do not receive or store your full payment card number.
Diagnostics and support
We may receive limited diagnostics needed to keep the App reliable, such as app version, device model, or error information. If you contact support, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.
How We Use Information
- Provide pen and ink identification, reference value guidance, and collection features.
- Store your analysis history so you can review prior results.
- Validate premium access and restore purchases.
- Improve reliability, fix bugs, and respond to support requests.
Service Providers and Sharing
We use service providers to operate the App, including Firebase (authentication, storage, database, and backend functions), OpenRouter and underlying AI model providers for analysis processing, RevenueCat for purchase status management, and Apple for billing. These providers process data only as needed to provide their services.
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not share personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, safety, or users.
Data Retention
- Images and analysis data: retained only as long as needed to provide your saved history, improve processing, or meet legal obligations.
- Anonymous account identifiers: retained while the app account remains active or until deletion is requested where feasible.
- Support communications: retained as long as reasonably necessary to resolve your request and keep records.
Device Permissions
- Camera: used when you choose to capture a pen or ink image.
- Photo Library: used when you choose to import or save an image.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, but no system can guarantee absolute security. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information by email.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to certain processing of your personal data. Contact us at hpapphelp@gmail.com for privacy-related requests.
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us so we can review the request.
